Cantabria Panoramas: The Mountain

name Cantabria has over 2000 years old, dating from 195 BC the first written references from it are recorded when Cato the Elder wrote:

"... fluvium hiberum: is oritur ex Cantabris, magnus atque pulcher, pisculentus."

"... the river Ebro, Cantabria born in the land of big, beautiful, rich in fish."

Cantabria The term would have a Celtic origin and come to mean people or people of the rocks, rocks or mountains. Not for nothing was known Cantabria long time as the Mountain and its inhabitants as the Highlanders. Well, and this "roll" what next? He comes to you in Cantabria we are spectators of a farm plan that endangers the mountain as know it. This would be a plan which includes the installation of 700 wind turbines in a small autonomous region like this with a large number of both terrain and landscape characteristics. As part of the Cantabrian society seems annoyed by the idea, the political class with his war stories are entertaining party. Some wring their hands and sell it as the solution to all the other evils of this region, which is passed the environment where I tell you, take up arms (I suppose because it caught chub). When I read in the press their arguments and speeches in both directions gives me the feeling you think dealing with the sheep. To sheep with a mixture of four slogans, 6 / 2 truths and a lie-dozen models were their way of thinking will.
I will not be opposing the installation of wind farms, on the contrary, but I think we must look for sustainable development without destroying this landscape, which unfortunately has suffered greatly since speculation and brickbats. All we need now begin a new era of bombings landscape, that of "molinaza."

Here you have a photo of Cantabria, the mountain, that which I love so much and I hope we can enjoy for a very long time.

Invocation For A Party

The new year seems to start strong and is giving a Siberian cold wave has reached the shores of the Cantabrian leaving temperatures fall below freezing. At present there are several ports that have Cantabria traffic problems (Lunada and SIA closed and another seven with mandatory use of strings: San Gloria, Matanela, Piedrasluengas, Stakes Trueba, Palombera, Alto Campo and La Collada de Carmona). Forecasts indicate that the time may yet worsen in the coming hours, leaving snow even at sea level so that the safety devices keep the orange alert throughout the region. To see if the weather permits and as the thing is not to walk at least let us take some pictures.

Photo taken in the Merrill area.
