Catholic Reading of "John Pablo II "

Undoubtedly this is a film that aims to show the entire life of Pope John Paul II. Only this scenario is beyond childhood and adolescence. In the first part highlights the stages of confrontation with National Socialism and, later, Soviet-style Marxism. In this sense, the film rightly stresses the deep roots of Karol Wojtyla in the Polish heroism and patriotism. In turn, the second outlines the evils of the late 70's to 90, namely the struggle against communist totalitarianism, wars, invasions, genocide, terrorism. The purpose of these forms it assumes the "mystery of evil," the film offers God wants to emphasize that freedom and human dignity. In this sense, the Pope is a strong advocate for these values. He takes on his body the pain of the world, whose suffering is united in Christ.

Jesus Christ Superstar by Norman Jewison

Tuesday April 12, 2011, at 20:00

Norman Jewison Norman Frederick Jewison

Catholic Reading from "Jesus Christ Superstar"

To understand the intention of the film "Jesus Christ Superstar" we must remember that this is the film version of a hit Broadway musical which opens in 1970, during the heyday of the hippie movement, and is made into a film in 1973. That is, as seen by an audience that has a particular sensitivity for a bounded group of problems. Problems involving new young people's relationships with political and economic power, the emergence of consciousness of the struggle against racism, young people full of doubts because society gives them tools lespermitan find his destiny and fear of being thrown into war they do not understand. These young men burst into the social life with the idea that they are a living force that can change the world by appealing only to love and not violence.

But these young people trying to change reality to which models need to follow and imitar.La figure of Christ, then, was a model that could quite easily be incorporated into this crusade of love and peace. Seen in this light, we find that the final attempt of this movie is to attract the figure of Christ to the momentous social and lived by the U.S. in the early 70's and not the reverse: to make horse racing a Christian movement. One could almost say that Jesus Christ Superstar is a thought experiment to the question: what would Christ if he came at this time? In the 70's answer was: would a young hippie full of doubts and fears who, in turn, full of love for men trying to change the world to make it more fair, but it fails in its bid to the hardness of heart men. From this perspective, the film presents Christ as a young man only acts as a social reformer. Again, because the film does not want mostar the path of Christianity, but to propose to the hippie culture almost as a natural continuation of the Christian message. Ie, what is left after stripping Christianity of its religious elements? A young idealistic 70's.

CYCLE IN THE MONTH OF EASTER

Life Beyond

Tuesday April 5, 2011 at 20:00

Accessions to enjoy each of these films are $ 500 for the general public; 2x1 Journal Subscriber Center and free for students and staff UCM.

Catholic Reading of "Beyond Life"

The film puts its focus in divination and evocation of the dead. One of the protagonists is, precisely, a medium. From the perspective of Christian faith, such conduct is not adhered to, in essence, the First Commandment: "Worship and love God above all things." Well, there is enclosed a will, at least implicitly, of power over time and history. In this regard, such practices do not render to God the worship that He belongs. Nevertheless, the film has, without doubt, values \u200b\u200bthat deserve mention: the search for meaning of life of genuine love, the confrontation with death and "beyond." In short, this is a kind of photography in the cultural atmosphere around the world. Prof. Cesar Lambert.
